Traditional amalgam fillings are composed of a mixture of silver, mercury, copper and tin. White fillings, on the other hand, are made of plastic resin and glass particles. Silver fillings typically last longer than white fillings, but this isn’t always the case, as today’s composite materials are much more resilient than those of the past. This may be an important factor for some patients who want to go as long as they can before needing to have their cavity refilled.
